The 411 - News You Can Use About Broward Schools

It's Back to School Time
for Staff and Students!
It's that time of year again - the time when kids turn in their remote controls, swim suits and skateboards for pencils, textbooks and squeaky new sneakers.

Dr. Till enjoys lunch at
North Andrews Gardens Elementary
On Monday, August 16th more than 240,000 students and 15,000 teachers headed back to class for the 2004/05 school year. Joining them was Superintendent Dr. Frank Till. On the first day, Dr. Till visited more than a dozen schools across the District and had lunch with Ms. Vanvonderen's 4th grade class at North Andrews Gardens Elementary. (Lunch was a chicken patty on a bun, fries, and oatmeal cookie and milk.)

This year, it is estimated that about 278,000 K-12 students will attend the District's 251 public schools. If that seems like more schools than last year, you're right - we've added seven new schools!

There were the normal first day glitches, but all and all everyone agreed that it was a very smooth opening of the school year.
