Cruising to Good Health
Cruising to Good Health
James D. Apicella, Leslie Gaynor,
and Board Chair, Lois Wexler
When Leslie Gaynor saw the article in the June/July issue of The 411 encouraging school board employees to get physicals, "The fact that I could potentially win a cruise just for getting a physical was an added bonus," she said. So Ms. Gaynor, a 25-year plus District employee who currently serves as an adult educator at Cooper City Community School, had her physician sign-off on the coupon and turned it into the District's benefits department. "I had forgotten all about the cruise contest until Benefits Director Ron Weintraub tracked me down a few weeks ago," explains Ms. Gaynor. "He told me there were more than 3,000 entries and I was amazed that I had actually won!"

"I'm really looking forward to cruising," she says, although it is possible she might give the week-long Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival Cruise Lines to her niece as a wedding gift. In the mean time, she's enjoying hearing all her friends tell her how much they enjoy cruising!

"An annual physical exam can help detect problems that otherwise might go unchecked," says Jim Apicella, the District's Wellness Coordinator. His department had a very positive response to the cruise incentive, which ended in mid-December 2002. In fact, almost two thousand more employees received physicals in 2002 over the previous year.
