"Tracer University" Provides Learning Experience for Students, Parents
Indian Trace Elementary School  recently invited students and parents to attend its first annual "Tracer University". This event consisted of three 25-minute workshops where session participants could select from 21 different workshops designed to meet the needs of all families and guide students towards academic success. Both Tracer teachers and district personnel joined together to teach workshops on such topics as, "Six Easy Steps To Improve Your Child's Reading Scores," "Time Out, Treats, Consequences and More! What Works is revealed!" and "You and Your Child as a Team," and "Learning Time Management and other Powerful Tools." As if the mere knowledge was not enough, the school's Partners in Education provided prizes that were raffled off at the end of the night. Tracer University graduates left with practical tools that could be implemented the very next day.

Coral Springs High School Teacher Nationally Recognized

She was one of only 15 teachers in the nation selected to participate in the "Digital Edge" Learning Interchange, an online library featuring National Board Certified Teachers joining forces to develop projects to promote accomplished teaching with technology. Fort Lauderdale High Home to Florida's Assistant Principal of the Year
Dr. Gina Eyerman
Dr. Gina Eyerman, principal of Fort Lauderdale High School and former assistant principal at South Plantation High School, was recently named 2003 Assistant Principal of the Year for the State of Florida. This award recognizes outstanding secondary school assistant principals who have demonstrated excellent leadership commitment to staff and students, served their communities and contributed to the overall profession of educational leadership. Dr. Eyerman is known for her caring work with students and accessibility to parents. While at South Plantation, she developed a curriculum guide for parents and students so that a four-year plan could be developed to meet graduation requirements. She also put rigorous college placement courses in place to allow students to start taking these classes in their freshman year, implemented an attendance waiver program to address student attendance and achievement and devised a mentorship program to provide students with individualized assistance.

High School Students Test the Law
The Coral Springs High School Law Studies class recently participated in a Mock Trial at the Broward County Courthouse, where defense and prosecution teams competed against Fort Lauderdale High and South Plantation High, respectively. The students spent weeks preparing for this mock trial with help from their teachers and even a second year student from Nova's School of Law. From opening remarks to questions and closing statements, each team performed flawlessly. And although there was no clear verdict (a hung jury, believe it or not), both teams achieved victory and experienced a valuable lesson that will last a lifetime.
