The Spotlight's on You
BECON Program Highlights
District Standouts, Events |
The Broward Education Communications Network - better known
as BECON is an educational media network that provides
resources for learners of all ages. Seeking to enrich the
creative and intellectual lives of viewers and listeners
through quality programming, BECON offers an array of services
to area schools and the community.
Broward School Beat (BSB) is one of the many programs offered
by BECON. Spotlighting students, teachers, parents, businesses
and local organizations, this monthly, 30-minute news magazine
television program stays in tune with what's happening
in our community and the programs that positively impact
our school system. Showcasing the innovative programs and
heartwarming stories and events taking place every day
in Broward County schools, BSB offers a rhythmical balance
of news, art and special features.
For example, during a recent month on BSB, students demonstrated
the importance of volunteerism through the Horses and the
Handicap program and learned to take care of kids at the
Cooper City High School Daycare Center. Then, BSB had viewers
fasten their seatbelts as it took them for a ride with
students as they climbed into cars for Driver's Ed. BSB
also explored the science and pre-engineering magnet program
at Crystal Lake Middle School and met an extraordinary
teacher in the BTU Teacher's Spotlight.
Broward School Beat is proud to recognize the accomplishments
of our teachers and schools, but its producers need your
help! If you know of any unique activities, events or special
programs taking place in the school system (or if you are
doing something special for the schools yourself), call
Broward School Beat at 954-370-
8350 or E-mail them at (jguarasci@becon.tv).
Broward School Beat is broadcast on Broward cable systems
on Mondays at 1 and 7 p.m., Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Fridays
at 5:30 p.m. Check www.becon.tv for school broadcast times.
