September 11th Remembered
 |
Nova
High School honors those lost on September 11th. |
Many took time out of their daily routines recently to remember
those lost on September 11th, 2001 - and so did the staff and
students of Broward County Public Schools. Students across
the District wrote letters to soldiers, collected supplies
and took part in ceremonies. One example was at Nova High School
in Davie, where students and staff gathered at a memorial constructed
by students, the marching band played the National Anthem and
the 1st Year Navy JROTC presented our Nation's Colors as Taps
was played.

Florida Atlantic University recently became the second of
only two colleges in the nation to offer a Dual Nurse Practitioner
Program and the Broward School District is proud to announce
that one of its own is among the first group of graduates
to complete the new program. Marcia Bynoe, Director of Health
Services for the District, recently received her Master of
Science Degree in Nursing as an Advanced Registered Nurse

of Florida to graduate from the new FAU program, Marcia was
able to obtain a Dual Nurse Practitioner license as both
a Family Nurse Practitioner and School Nurse Practitioner.
There are only 500 people in the nation that hold such a
license.
BASP Conducts Back-to-School Drive
The Broward Association of School Psychologists (BASP) once
again conducted a successful drive to collect back-to-school
supplies this year. For several years, Broward County School
Psychologists have supported this drive by purchasing backpacks,
pencils, paper and various other items to help provide school
supplies to students in Broward County. The items are donated
to For Children's Sake, an organization that distributes
the items to children who otherwise would not have the basic
supplies needed to function in a classroom.
Sunset School Shows its Spirit
The staff of Sunset School demonstrated their Dolphin spirit
recently by wearing the team's colors on "Fins Friday." In
response to a contest sponsored by the Miami Dolphins, students
and staff members wore aqua, orange and white and took part
in a variety of team-building activities to strengthen the
interpersonal and social skills of Sunset students. At the
time The 411 went to press, winners of the contest had not
been selected, but ten Broward schools are eligible for a
$500 grant. The schools could also win a visit from Junior
Training Camp and an opportunity to meet the Miami Dolphins
Cheerleaders and T.D., the team's mascot. |
