High School Celebrates
With First Home Game
 |
| Nova High stadium dedication ceremony |
Friday, October 3rd was indeed a day for much celebration
at Nova High School. Students and staff members alike
celebrated two firsts that day: the inauguration of a
long awaited new stadium and the first football game
played on that field of dreams.
The festivities began
with a ribbon-cutting ceremony prior to the game. The
school's band, cheerleaders and drill team were all on
hand to provide entertainment and enthusiasm. School
Board representatives, officials from the Town of Davie
as well as parents and student reps also made presentations.
A
tree-planting ceremony in memory of Nova High student
Rebecca Kirtman capped off the ceremony; Rebecca was
a cheerleader, honor student and founder of Becca's Closet,
a dress bank providing formal wear and accessories to
high school girls who want to attend their schools' formal
dances but lack the resources to purchase gowns and accessories.
Rebecca was killed in a tragic auto accident in late
August of this year.
Following the ceremony, the Nova
High School Titans inaugurated their new stadium, hosting
Everglades High School. While the Titans were unable
to end the evening victorious - losing a hard fought
battle 14 to 11 - they're sure to enjoy many victories
in the months and years ahead in their new stadium. |
Grants
Contacts: A First Contact for
Grants Information
in Schools
|
Many enterprising administrators, teachers and staff
seek out grant funding to support innovative educational
programs that address student needs. One of the many
ways that the Grants Administration & Government
Programs Department assists schools in this process is
by researching and sharing information with schools about
grant opportunities for which they are eligible to apply.
For the third consecutive year, the Grants Administration & Government
Programs Department has established a network of grant
contacts at schools to improve the timeliness and efficiency
of distributing information about grants. Grant
contacts are the first people at the school to learn
about grants that support classroom projects as well
as available training to help school staff members write
competitive, fundable proposals. These grant contacts
are responsible for disseminating these materials to
teachers and staff in their school through a variety
of means. All school principals have been encouraged
to identify a grant contact.
The Grants Administration & Government
Programs Department has set up a grants contacts network
on the CAB E-mail system for the 2003-2004 school year.
Using the CAB network, Grants Administration staff sends
out grant and workshop information as it becomes available.
Additional activities are being planned during the next
few months to assist grant contacts with their duties
and recognize their efforts.
Grant contacts dedicate their
time and efforts to help their schools find additional
resources through grants. So far, principals from 168 schools
have named a grant contact and the list continues to grow. If you
would like the name of your school's grant contact, or
need more information about grants and training opportunities,
please visit the Grants Administration & Government
Programs webpage at www.broward.k12.fl.us/grants or call
the department directly at 954-765-6674.
