CAB E-Mail:
the Journey
Continues...

"Foundation Level" training on the District's CAB (Communicating Across Broward) E-mail system was successfully conducted for district-based staff during the month of July and as of the end of August, all district-based staff were operating on CAB E-mail only. According to Chuck Stanley, the District's Director of Technical Support Services, school training - which began in mid-August - is expected to be completed by the end of October so that by November 1, 2003, the entire District will be operating on the CAB E-mail system.

" The CAB E-mail system is much more than it's name implies. It includes features that will change the way District employees communicate and collaborate," explains Mr. Stanley. "That's why the training is necessary. We want to be sure that everyone understands the system's calendaring and bulletin board features as well the many other enhancements this new system offers."

New employees to the district will receive a packet of information on CAB during their employment processing; this packet will provide instructions on how to ensure an account is created and how to activate the account. Once activation has taken place, there are a variety of resources available to assist the new CAB user. Additional assistance and user information can be found on the CAB web site or the online resources within CAB. The CAB Video Tutorials located on the CAB web site (http://www.broward.k12.fl.us/cab) are continually being updated. New tutorials on "message management" and "archiving messages" were added in late August.

Based on July's training evaluation results, 85% of district-based staff trained during the month of July either strongly agreed or agreed that:

1. They are comfortable using CAB
2. The objectives of the event were met
3. The CAB Drivers' Guide was helpful
4. The pace of the class was appropriate

Application level training (Part 2) will be offered starting in mid-October of this year and will cover conferencing permissions and calendaring. The target audience will be the designated CAB ambassadors at each location. Details will be discussed at the TLC meeting in the fall.

Westglades Middle School Dedication Held
Westglades Middle School
On May 29th, students, staff and local dignitaries gathered at Westglades Middle School in Parkland for a dedication ceremony. Following a student parade into the auditorium, the band and chorus performed and city officials, Principal Christine Flynn and teacher of the year Robin Berard spoke. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Till and school board members assisted with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 1,800-student facility, which opened in January of 2003. "To us, the occasion was about much more than protocol; we considered it a celebration of all our achievements throughout the school year," Ms. Flynn said.
