April 26th is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

On Thursday, April 26th, the District will once again participate in “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.” The program continues its focus on the challenges adults face integrating work and family. It’s designed to allow parents, guardians and mentors to share their work lives and introduce these issues to our nation’s daughters and sons. The 2007 theme, “Revolutionizing the Workplace,” plays a vital role in shaping the outcomes of the day and serves as the basis for a broad range of unique activities.

“Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” is intended to be more than just a career day. It’s designed to expand opportunities for students, expose them to what adults in their lives do during the work day, show them the value of their education and give them an opportunity to share how they envision their future. Each year, workplaces and adults around the country recognize its benefits and participate in the program to support our nation’s daughters and sons.

The District encourages schools to support their students (recommended ages 8 to 12) and participate in this experience by partnering with a workplace or planning in-school activities that help girls and boys explore personal and professional aspirations for the future.
Hollywood Hills High Holds Special Open House for Parents
The Hollywood Hills High School faculty and staff invited parents to the “Family Community And Teacher (FCAT) Working Together” open house program. The FCAT open house was designed for parents of students in the 9th Grade Center, but all parents were invited to attend.

The evening began with a brief meeting in the auditorium to welcome parents to the school and to introduce faculty and staff. Principal Joyce C. Ferguson facilitated a presentation on the A+ Plan school grading guidelines.

Following the A+ Plan presentation, a series of concurrent sessions were held. Topics included: Virtual Counselor/Pinnacle; FCAT strategies (math and reading); and graduation requirements. The Virtual Counselor and Pinnacle session aided parents in accessing student records (grades, attendance, etc.), while the FCAT strategies workshop offered parents tips and tools for assisting students with the FCAT. The graduation requirements session provided vital information for our 2010 graduates.

To conclude the evening, the freshman class officers and freshman history students conducted tours of the newly constructed 9th grade center building.
