Broward's Healthiest
School Competition
Dillard, Silver Ridge, Riverland and Lakeside elementary schools are battling for the title of Broward's Healthiest School.
Earlier this year, faculty members at those schools were pre-screened to establish baseline data on each person's blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and Body Mass Index (BMI.) Each participant is recording their activities, in lieu of watching television; documenting their sleep patterns and maintaining an exercise log. Throughout the year, faculty members will take part in wellness seminars on nutrition, fitness, sleep, cancer prevention, anti-aging, cardiovascular disease and stress management.
In May, the title of Broward's Healthiest School will be awarded to the school whose faculty exhibits the most improvement in lowering its cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI and blood sugar. In addition to an individual cash raffle, the winning school will receive a $3,500 grand prize, donated by Humana Healthcare and Vista Healthplan, to be used to purchase materials selected by the faculty. May the healthiest school win!
