USA Today Taps Broward Teacher as Top Educator

The USA Today Top 20 Educators in America have been announced, and our
own Jane Koszoru from the College Academy at Broward Community College (Davie Campus) - who was our 2004 Teacher of the Year - made the 20-member All-USA Teacher Team. Mrs. Koszoru - a 33-year teaching veteran - teaches English composition, American literature and creative writing to 11th and 12th grade students who earn high school diplomas and associate degrees simultaneously.

Winners of this prestigious designation were chosen by a panel of education professionals who considered how well nominees defined and addressed student needs as well as the impact they have on their students. Nominated by Principal Nell Sapp, she will receive a $500 cash award and a trophy and her school will receive a $2,000 award. She will also be featured in an upcoming issue of USA Today.

Employees Take Part in
United Way's Annual
Day of Caring

School district employees join other community volunteers in sprucing-up Hollywood Hills High School on the United Way's Day of Caring
Broward County Public Schools employees were among the more than 700 volunteers who came together to renovate Hollywood Hills High School during United Way of Broward County's 12th Annual Day of Caring. This massive volunteer effort included such renovations as exterior painting and campus grounds landscaping. The event was made possible thanks to a generous corporate, community and school district workforce and supplies donated from within the community. Hollywood Hills High Principal Joyce Ferguson said, "Day of Caring was a tremendous success that would not have happened without the hard work and planning of the CEO and staff of United Way and Co-Chairs Judy Henry and Walter Crosson. It was wonderful to see hundreds of community representatives working together on one project. Everything was done quickly and the results are beautiful! The Spartans are enjoying their campus and taking pride in our "new look."
