Dr. Lisa Milenkovic, STEM Science Curriculum supervisor, participated in a Back to School Climate Education event hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, as part of the President’s Climate Action Plan.
The event included Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, a former astronaut and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Administrator, who shared new educational resources for climate education. Dr. Milenkovic shared information on several important climate-based initiatives:
- Citizen Science Projects where schools and teachers train to monitor soil moisture at the school site, and when the NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive satellite is overhead they can enter the information into the global GLOBE.gov database
- National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Habitat Stewards and NWF EcoSchools, where 11 schools will partner with a sister school in Taiwan
