Manatee Bay Elementary is very proud of its new Bay Buddies
program, which brings together ESE (Exceptional Student Education) students and GE (General Education) students to participate in teacher-directed activities which promote social and work skills.
This program encourages awareness and acceptance of people who are “differently-abled”. Helping peers promotes self-esteem and sensitivity towards others, both at school and in the community. ESE students make new connections and friendships, fostering a feeling of belonging to the school as a whole and not just to their own class.
This initiative has begun on a small scale with just a handful of teachers and staff involved, but Manatee Bay hopes to grow the program in the future.
