Manatee Bay Elementary School Student Council Helps Over 400 Families in Need in Haiti

Manatee Bay Elementary School’s student council collected and delivered much needed goods and supplies for victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti. Students and families donated more than 40 boxes filled with medicine, toiletries, toys, school supplies, food, water purifiers, along with clothes and shoes for men, women and children.  School leaders partnered with corporate sponsor DHL and officials in Haiti to arrange for transportation, security, logistical support and helping hands for the humanitarian mission to Port-Au-Prince.

During the week of Thanksgiving, Manatee Bay Elementary Assistant Principal Marie Dumervil and Speech Pathalogist Keri Kaplan traveled to Haiti to personally deliver the donated items and share over 400 care packages directly to the hands of families in need.

“On behalf of our student council, families, staff and Manatee Bay community, special thanks to Principal Heather DeVaughn for her leadership and compassion for this project,” said Assistant Principal Dumervil. “And, thanks to our students, parents and staff who made the difference in so many lives.”
