Nova High School Debate Team Makes Top Ten National Speech and Debate Association Rankings

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

The National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) has currently ranked Nova High School's Debate Team in first place, out of the top 10 teams in the nation.

Every time a student competes, he or she earns points, leading to degrees in the League. The Nova High School team earned over 900 degrees last year, earning membership in the NSDA's highest ranking.

“The essential life skills of leadership, research, writing, logic and communication have been enhanced for Nova's students through their participation as demonstrated by this award,” said Nova High, Speech and Debate teacher, Lisa Miller. “In addition, students have all signed and adhere to a strict NSDA Honor Code,  which inculcates ethical behavior along with communication and leadership skills.”

Nova’s debate team is a Karl E. Mundt Award recipient for Congressional Debate -- the only team in NSDA history that has won this cumulative award three times, and the winner of the Bruno E. Jacob Award, the highest honor bestowed on any team.
