Sandpiper Elementary School Celebrates How Low Can You Go Challenge

Thursday, April 27, 2017

The students of Sandpiper Elementary School celebrated winning this year’s How Low Can You Go Annual Miami Heat Challenge with a pep rally sponsored by the Miami Heat with a special guest appearance by Miami Heat mascot Burnie. With help from student ambassadors, who reminded teachers and students to turn off lights and computers, the school lowered its electrical consumption and realized a savings of nearly $11,000.
The How Low Can You Go Challenge is the brainchild of Driftwood Middle School teacher Linda Gancitano, who partnered with the Miami Heat to empower students to cut energy use, waste and water use in classrooms through fun, engaging school and districtwide competitions.
