The third annual iMPACT GiRLS ‘Afterschool-Not-Afterstreets’ Spring Gala and Awards Dinner was held at the Signature Grand on Friday, April 24, 2015. This year’s theme was “fashion statements from the inside-out.”
This fashion themed night included an iMPACT GiRLS video production, a formal procession of 48 girls, ages six through nine, a dance and sign language performance medley and a public speaking ceremony. Over 230 guests included students, parents, school and District staff, community, government and business leaders, and sponsor Neiman Marcus corporate staff.
The iMPACT GiRLS, Make a Difference Mentors, including Assistant Director of iMPACT GiRLS, Dee Harden, were acknowledged and received gifts from their mentees. Executive Director of After School Programs, Inc., Dr. Verda Farrow; Broward County Administrator, Bertha Henry; and BCPS 2015 Principal of the Year, Angela Brown, of Dillard Elementary School were recipients of the prestigious iMPACT Award.
U.S. Congressman Alcee Hastings, received the 2015 Champion Award for his tremendous support of iMPACT GiRLS. William McCormick, CEO of 4KUS Consulting Group Inc. was guest speaker for the event.
iMPACT GiRLS, was founded in 2012, providing gender-based programs and mentoring for young girls, navigating girls’ interests in science, math, literacy, finance, the arts, communication, and health, fostering self-esteem, mastering challenges, igniting personal achievement, academic excellence, leadership and resisting negative gender stereotypes.
