On Thursday, March 2, 2017, teachers and students at Village Elementary School celebrated the birthday of legendary children’s author Dr. Seuss with five Canine Assisted Therapy dogs: Brandy, Sebastian, Coral, Lexie and Scruffy. 
Congratulations to Nerissa Street, theater teacher at Bethune Elementary School of the Arts, for being a Lauderhill Regional Chamber of Commerce 2017 Woman of Distinction.  Street is one of nine women awarded the honor, out of 150 nominees.
National Speech and Debate Education Day is Friday, March 3, 2017.  Students across Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) are recognizing the day by participating in a variety of debate activities at school.
The Broward County Singing Principals, also known as Goodwill Ambassadors of Broward County, were recently recognized with a reception and placement of commemorative plaques at Old Dillard Museum honoring the group established in 1959.
Talicia Gonzales, a student at Whiddon-Rogers Education Center, was recently invited to New York City to be part of the National CARES Mentoring Movement video, “The Rising: Elevating, Education, Expectations and Self Esteem.”
Drama students from Ramblewood Middle School competed with more than 150 other troupes from middle schools through the state on February 9-11, 2017, in Orlando.
More than a dozen students at Lauderdale Lakes Middle School are learning to play the harp.
Sixth grade students from Sunrise Middle School recently took part in Nova Southeastern University’s Museum on the Move.
The National Danish Performance Team recently brought their “We Move the World” dance and song to Dania Elementary School as part of their worldwide campaign to get students to move and be more active through dance and games.
The 2017 Community Involvement Awards celebration honoring individuals, businesses and organizations that have gone above and beyond in their commitment to BCPS students, families and community recently took place at the Bailey Hall, Broward College – A. Hugh Adams Central Campus.
Broward Education Foundation (BEF) presented its 20th Annual Innovative Teacher Idea Expo on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Nova Southeastern University. The event is designed to foster sharing between educators and to promote innovation in the classroom.
FIU Fun Day at Nob Hill Elementary School

Thanks to the support of representatives from sororities, fraternities and other student volunteers at Florida International University (FIU), Nob Hill Elementary School hosted its first FIU Fun Day community partnership event.
More than 160 students in the medical magnet program and physical education classes at William Dandy Middle School teamed up with the American Heart Association for National “Wear Red Day” and “The Great Replay” event. 
Ten students from South Korea spent an entire week attending classes at Silver Trail Middle School. 
Thanks to collaboration between BCPS and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, approximately 1,500 students in the Career, Technical, Adult & Community Education program, recently got the opportunity to participate in a new career fair – the Claim Your Future Showcase.
Students, teachers and administrators at Deerfield Beach High School collected donations to help with Haiti Relief efforts.
Vincent Newman, a science teacher at McArthur High School, was selected by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Awards and Recognitions Committee as the recipient of the 2017 DuPont/Pioneer Excellence in Agricultural Science Education Award.
First grade students from Bethune Elementary School of the Arts were able to walk across the entire state of Florida with the National Geographic’s Traveling Map.

Congratulations to Ramblewood Elementary School’s Jada Porter, for being selected to appear on national TV to pitch her online bakery business, Porter’s Pastries.
Students from Mirror Lake Elementary School honored International Holocaust Remembrance Day and Chinese New Year.
On Thursday, January 26, 2017, and Friday, January 27, 2017, students from Panther Run Elementary School participated in the annual STEM Olympiad Showcase.
Broward County Public Schools high school seniors participated in the “Last Chance” Before Graduation College and Career Summit helping students plan their future after graduation.
More than 80 students and educators from eight countries, including Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Haiti, Ireland, Poland and Switzerland joined students, teachers, administrators and community leaders at Pompano Beach High School to kick off the third International Summit.
