FIU Fun Day at Nob Hill Elementary School
Thanks to the support of representatives of sororities, fraternities and other student volunteers at Florida International University (FIU), Nob Hill Elementary School hosted its first FIU Fun Day community partnership event. Students with disabilities and their peers participated in activities to help them develop and improve their academic, social-emotional and communication skills.

Finalists for School-Related/District Employee of the Year Announced
Congratulations to the six finalists announced for BCPS 2017 School-Related/District Employee of the Year. A clerk specialist, two secretaries, two office managers and an information management technician/registrar round out the six finalists honored as the best in the District, with a chance to win the coveted 2017 School-Related/District Employee of the Year award.


BEF Hosts Annual Idea Expo 
Broward Education Foundation (BEF) presented its 20th Annual Innovative Teacher Idea
Expo on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Nova Southeastern University. The event is
designed to foster sharing between educators and promote innovation in the classroom.
The BEF provides scholarships for teachers to encourage and support creativity and,
innovative teaching and learning. Participants of the expo visited more than 50 exhibits
and attended workshops offering innovative curriculum and dynamic teaching
strategies.

Next Gen Engage Student-Led Series - February 23, 2017
The Next Gen Engage town hall series provides an opportunity for students to share
their experiences, thoughts and ideas about what happens in their schools and
classrooms. The Next Gen Engage event on February 23, 2017 at Pines Middle School
is the fourth of seven events taking place throughout the District. Next Gen Engage

Broward County Council PTA/PTSA 86th Annual Banquet
Mark your calendar for the Broward County Council PTA/PTSA 86th Annual Banquet on
Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Renaissance Hotel in Plantation. This year’s theme is
“Vegas – What happens here, stays here!” Registration and ticket information.

Superintendent’s School Boundary Recommendations & Upcoming Public Hearings
Recently, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Superintendent Robert W. Runcie
presented the 2017/18 Final School Boundary Recommendations, which are now
available on the District’s website (http://bit.ly/2kchLiJ). The recommendations are
based on community input, School Board input, staff review of boundary considerations,
and a review of additional information following the January 24, 2017, School Board
workshop.

BCPS Hosts 2017 Community Involvement Awards
Congratulations to all of the award recipients recognized today at the 2017 Community
Involvement Awards Ceremony – “Catch the Spirit,” celebrating and honoring
individuals, businesses and organizations who have gone above and beyond in their 
commitment to BCPS students, families and community. Thank for supporting the
students of Broward County Public Schools.

William Dandy Middle School Students Team Up to Support National Heart Health
Month

More than 160 students in the medical magnet program and physical education classes
at William Dandy Middle School teamed up with the American Heart Association for
National “Wear Red Day” and “The Great Replay” event. The school’s staff coordinated
games for students including jump rope, hula-hoop, kickball, capture the flag, volleyball
and flag football.

Silver Trail Middle School Hosts Students from South Korea 
Ten students from South Korea spent an entire week attending classes at Silver Trail
Middle School. The exchange students had an opportunity to learn first-hand about
education, culture and lifestyle in the United States.

School’s soccer team. "Adler has been an inspiration to this team, on and off the field,
he’s considered my assistant coach, he has a really huge impact on the boys," said
soccer coach Andre Reynolds.

Glenda "Gigi" McIntire, a school counselor at Mirror Lake Elementary School in
Plantation, is one of three recipients of the Gutterman Family Outstanding Holocaust
Educator of the Year Award. This award recognizes elementary and secondary
schoolteachers who have demonstrated a positive impact on their schools and the wider
community within the field of Holocaust, genocide and human rights education.
