Apollo Middle School Designated as Nationally Certified Demonstration School
Congratulations to Apollo Middle School on being named a National Demonstration School by Magnet Schools of America. Apollo Middle is the only school in Broward County, and one of only 10 schools in the nation, to receive this prestigious recognition. Demonstration Schools serve as examples and learning laboratories for school innovation and improvement. The national certification process is based on the Magnet School standards of excellence and five pillars of magnet schools: diversity; innovative curriculum and professional development; academic excellence; high quality instructional systems; and family and community partnerships.

Broward County Public Schools is proud to announce a $25,000 grant award from the Florida Panthers Foundation’s Community Champions Grant Program, which provides financial support for programs and initiatives that benefit the community.
Hundreds of BCPS Students to Put Their Skills to the Test in VEX Robotics Competitions
Thanks to a grant awarded to BCPS by the REC Foundation and NASA (valued at $227,000), hundreds of BCPS students from 55 schools are competing for the first time in VEX robotics competitions this school year.
Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day – February 2
Broward County Public Schools celebrates Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day (Groundhog Job Shadow Day) on Friday, February 2, 2018. Please note this date does not align with the national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day date, which conflicts with state mandated testing. BCPS Receives Dr. Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Education Impact Award with Collaborative Partners
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), Florida Atlantic University and the School District of Palm Beach County received the 2017 Dr. Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Education Impact Award for their collaborative program, Establishing Excellence in Elementary Preparation (EXCEED).

SWAG on 6: Plantation High's Duane 'The Role Model' Johnson - NBC6​
He’s got a name like a movie star, and he’s already a star at Plantation High School. Duane Johnson’s favorite class is aerospace engineering, but he’s right at home in AP calculus or on the football field. He’s played for the Colonels for four years, and if there’s a student government meeting, you’ll find Duane there, too.

Super Teacher: Bianca Magalhaes Placucci - The South Florida CW
This week's super teacher is Bianca Magalhaes Placucci, the biology instructor at Piper High School.  Her energetic and interactive teaching style allows her students to learn skills that will benefit them long after they leave the classroom.
