Broward County School Board Approves Hurricane Irma Makeup Days
The School Board of Broward County, Florida, unanimously approved utilizing two previously scheduled early release days – October 19, 2017, and December 22, 2017 – as makeup days for Hurricane Irma.

Broward County Public Schools Celebrate International Walk to School Day
From Miramar and Hallandale Beach to Parkland and Deerfield Beach, students across District joined thousands of schools and communities around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. The global event celebrating the benefits and fun of walking to school involved communities from all 50 states and more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day.

'Puppy Raising' Part of Lesson Plan at Davie School - NBC 6
Gunther is just like every other fourth-grader at Nova Eisenhower Elementary School in Davie, with some slight differences. They write with pens, he stays in one. They have hair, he has fur. Their shirts have collars, he wears one. Yes, Gunther is a dog, and the students in Suzanne Shaw’s class are collectively "puppy raising" him, preparing him for service dog training.

Broward County proposes 2 Hurricane Irma school makeup days - Local 10
Students in Broward County missed seven days of school in September due to Hurricane Irma.  In order to make up those days, Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie has recommended changing the Oct. 19 and Dec. 22 early-release days to full days and moving the start dates of the second and third quarters.

Broward County and Monroe County School officials announced Tuesday that they have set up makeup days for students after Hurricane Irma caused school in both counties to be closed for several days.

Florida Schools Begin Enrolling Puerto Rican Hurricane EvacueesWLRN
Puerto Ricans fleeing the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria have already arrived at Florida’s public schools. Broward County schools took in 128 hurricane refugees last week, mainly from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
