Save the Date for Ed Talk 2016/17
This year’s Ed Talk returns to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center on Saturday, November 5, 2016, from 9 a.m. – noon. Plan now to be part of the community discussion on making a difference in education and advancing the District’s Strategic Plan.

South Florida Gifted and Talented Symposium
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), in partnership with the Broward County Government Cultural Division and Broward Center for the Performing Arts, is pleased to present the South Florida Gifted and Talented Symposium to be held on September 23, 2016, at Pompano Beach High School. This year’s theme is Super Powered – Changing the World One Gift at a Time. The symposium, open to educators and parents, provides opportunities to network and learn in a forum dedicated to strategies and practices that foster self-directed, motivated and independent learners in real-world learning environments with "no ceilings."

2017 National Merit Semifinalists Named
Congratulates to the 55 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students for being named semifinalists in the prestigious 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. These outstanding high school seniors, who are among 16,000 students from around the nation selected for this honor, will continue to compete for some 7,500 Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million.

BCPS Spotlighted by the White House for Commitment to Computer Science for All Students 
Broward County Public Schools was spotlighted this week by the White House for its focus on expanding access to computer science in schools. STEM Science Supervisor Dr. Lisa Milenkovic and Office of School Performance and Accountability Director Christine Semisch, both of whom are leaders in the District’s computer science initiative #BrowardCodes, participated in the White House Summit on Computer Science for All on September 14, 2016.

Three BCPS High School Student Finalists in NFTE Startup Summer 
Congratulations to Kristen Anti of Nova High School, Tanika McKenzie of Hallandale High School and Brevon Poiter of Northeast High School, who are among the top student businesses selected to advance to the NFTE (Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship) South Florida Startup final competition. The young entrepreneur finalists will get a chance to pitch their businesses to a panel of entrepreneurs and executives in a “shark tank” style event for a chance to win a portion of the $10,000 prize in capital to invest in their business at the Cambridge Innovation Center Miami on November 3, 2016.

Broward Kindergartners Learning Coding
All 34 public high schools in Broward County already offer extensive computer science courses. Now the district is emphasizing the early grades, starting the basics of coding in kindergarten, giving it the importance of reading and writing English.
