BCPS 2014 School-Related Employee of the Year Finalists Announced

Congratulations to the six finalists for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) 2014 School-Related Employee of the Year. This award recognizes outstanding education support personnel for the significant contributions they make to Broward County schools and students.
The 2014 School-Related Employee of the Year finalists are:
Sheryl Garfield, BRACE Advisor at Coconut Creek High School, Coconut Creek
“Ms. Garfield is our students’ biggest fan, cheerleader, school mom and the driving force behind every student from Coconut Creek High School who goes to college,” said Coconut Creek High School Principal Scott Fiske. “She is relentless in the pursuit of excellence on their behalf.”
Christopher Gates, Micro-Computer Technical Specialist at Broward Virtual School
“What impresses me most about Mr. Gates is the pride he takes in everything he does,” said Broward Virtual School Principal Christopher McGuire. “He takes initiative better than anyone I’ve seen in my 20-year career as a public educator. He’s an exemplary employee who represents the best that Broward County Public Schools has to offer our students.”
Mary Harris, Office Manager/Confidential Secretary at Sheridan Hills Elementary School, Hollywood
Thanks to the efforts of Mary Harris, students at Sheridan Hills Elementary School are college bound. “She spearheaded our school’s theme, “Sheridan Hills is College Bound,” said Sheridan Hills Principal Josetta Campbell. “She contacted over 300 colleges and universities to donate pennants and posters, which hang in the hallways of our school.”
“Ms. Harris is the pulse of Sheridan Hills Elementary,” adds PTO volunteer coordinator and parent Denise Howland.
Anthony Haynes, Micro-Computer Technical Specialist at Attucks Middle School, Hollywood
“Mr. Haynes is a true team player. He always goes above and beyond to get the tasks done,” said Attucks Middle School Principal Errol Evans.
“Haynes’ priority is student success,” said Attucks teacher and colleague Allison Duncan. “He has initiated technology driven projects that promote student engagement, raise interest and ultimately build career readiness.”
Rebecca Kisch, Educational Support Professional at Wilton Manors Elementary School, Wilton Manors
“Rebecca Kisch epitomizes all the good things in our School District,” said Wilton Manors Principal Melissa Holtz. “No task is too daunting. There is nothing she will refuse to help with, if it serves the children at Wilton Manors.”
Lorie Spencer, Program Coordinator, Meal Benefits at Food & Nutrition Services Department
“Ms. Spencer leads her team to exceed customer expectations,” said Food & Nutrition Services Department Director Mary Mulder.  “She has great enthusiasm and drive and an in-depth understanding of required federal regulations, principles and practices.”
The School-Related Employee of the Year finalists and all nominees will be honored at the BCPS Caliber Awards on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. The Caliber Awards program recognizes the exceptional leadership, hard work and dedication of Broward’s outstanding teachers, principals, assistant principals and school-related employees.
