On Saturday, November 2, 2013, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Media (Library) Specialists will help Barnes & Noble kick off its annual Holiday Book Drive. All five local Barnes & Noble retail stores have chosen Broward Education Foundation as this year’s exclusive Holiday Book Drive recipient. The promotion runs from November 1 through December 31.
The annual Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive is a fun and personal way to provide new books to children in need, enriching and improving their lives. Customers purchase books to donate – childhood favorites, the latest bestsellers, or from titles pre-selected by the schools. Barnes & Noble will deliver the books to the Broward Education Foundation for distribution to children.
BCPS media (library) specialists and library teachers will read stories to children who attend Story Time at the five participating Barnes & Noble Broward locations on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 a.m.
Broward County Association of Media Specialists (BCAMS) President and Westglades Middle School Library Teacher Diana Haneski, says the Story Time event is also a great way to celebrate November as National Family Literacy Month. “Reading aloud is one of the best things we can do for our children,” said Haneski. “It stimulates their imagination, encourages language development, increases vocabulary and it’s fun.”
