Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), in partnership with the Brinker Education Initiative, presents Hispanic STEM Empowerment Day, on Saturday, December, 16, 2017
, at Cooper City High School. The event is planned to celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), in the Hispanic and Latino communities, and to educate high school students and families about local STEM careers and opportunities
Hundreds of families are expected to attend the inclusive event, which aims to educate students and parents about solar energy and robotics, environmental, forensic, and cutting-edge health sciences, as well as new innovations in computer science, engineering and undersea research.
“We look forward to an exciting event that allows us to showcase our District's STEM initiatives and encourages our students to seek the exciting opportunities that STEM careers provide,” said Dr. Lisa Milenkovic, STEM and Computer Science, supervisor.
Hispanic STEM Day kicks off with guest speakers from Florida Atlantic University, representing its engineering programs and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers chapter.
Throughout the day, students and families will have the opportunity to interact with cutting edge exhibits in engineering, health care technology, coding, undersea research, and representatives from 100 U.S. Army STEM careers and scholarship opportunities. There will also be a Motorola Solutions solar car and robotics exhibit, Broward County Sheriff’s Office forensic sciences and patrol cars, and GameStop computerized games.
Additional event exhibitors also include: Broward Technical Colleges; U.S. Army, 100 STEM Careers, March 2 Success; Waste Management; Marine Industries Association of South Florida; Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers; TK2 Coding Academy; Florida Atlantic University Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science; Florida International University, World's Largest Undersea Research; Nova Southeastern University; Casimiro Global Foundation; and BizInnovator.
