Broward County Public Schools 2014 Sunshine State Scholars Nominees

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to announce its nominees for the 2014 Sunshine State Scholars Recognition Program.  This program recognizes the state’s top 11th grade students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to encourage them to pursue their postsecondary education and future careers in Florida.
 
Congratulations to:
 
  • Vivek Miglani, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (Nominee)
  • Rodmy Paredes, Cypress Bay High School (Nominee)
  • Yagna Patel, Coral Glades High School (Alternate Nominee)
 
To be eligible for the Sunshine State Scholars Recognition Program, students must meet the following criteria:
 
  • Be a high school junior and have an interest in pursuing postsecondary educational opportunities in Florida.
  • Express or demonstrate an interest in STEM-related studies.
  • Have a weighted grade point average of 3.9 or higher.
  • Be on track to qualify for the Florida Academic Scholars Award, based on the current guidelines established for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
 
During the Sunshine State Scholars program, which takes place in Orlando, February 13-14, the student nominees, along with their parents and a teacher selected by each scholar, will be honored.
 
“I commend each of these students for their outstanding academic accomplishments,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie.  “They are among the best and brightest students in our high schools and we are excited to nominate them for this prestigious program.”
