The School Board of Broward County, Florida, unanimously approved the 2017/18 School Boundary Recommendations during a School Boundary Public Hearing on March 22, 2017, at Plantation High School.
The approved changes include a new sixth through 12th grade option for Millennium Middle School, which will begin by adding one high school grade with 75 seats each year until 2020/21. Additionally, a boundary change for three elementary schools in Parkland will go into effect, to align enrollment growth with new school capacity.
The School Board unanimously adopted the following Superintendent’s amended School Boundary Recommendations:
- C-1 (AMENDED): Create a sixth through 12th grade experimental academic pathway at Millennium Middle School, adding one high school grade with 75 seats each year beginning in the 2017/18 school year, with all high school grade levels added to the school in 2020/21. Students enrolling into Millennium 9 – 12 need to meet the requirements set in the Dual Enrollment Articulation Agreement with the School Board of Broward County and Broward College. Students with a 3.0 cumulative unweighted high school GPA and the minimum standardized college placement scores for college-level courses in all three placement subject areas (reading, math and English) may participate in dual enrollment. (HB 7031 amended section 1007.271(2), Florida Statutes). Preference will be for students who have attended Millennium Middle School. Remaining available seats will be filled by reassignment applicants through the District School Choice process.
- E-1 (part 1): A boundary change from Heron Heights Elementary School and Park Trails Elementary School to Riverglades Elementary School to align enrollment growth with new school capacity.
- E-1 (part 2) (AMENDED): Elementary students residing within the remaining portion of the combined Heron Heights Elementary School/ Park Trails Elementary School boundary not impacted by Recommendation E-1, part 1, will be given the choice to also attend Riverglades Elementary School. Elementary students residing within the combined boundary of Heron Heights Elementary and Park Trails Elementary may be assigned to Riverglades Elementary if seats are not available at Heron Heights Elementary or ParkTrails Elementary. Transportation will be provided as applicable and may include additional depot bus stops. Siblings will be guaranteed placement in the same school, and priority will be given to place students with siblings at the school they are currently attending. Existing geographic priority areas for Heron Heights Elementary and Park Trails Elementary, not impacted by Recommendation E-1, part 1, will be maintained.
