BCPS Ranks First in State for Performance Incentive Funding by the Florida Department of Education

Students attending Broward Technical Colleges are earning the most industry certifications across the state. This school year, students at Atlantic Technical College, McFatter Technical College and Sheridan Technical College earned industry certifications in 48 tested areas, resulting in the colleges receiving $644,562 from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Performance Incentive Funding (PIF). Funds will be used to continue updating technology and equipment to meet industry standards.

“This top ranking affirms that Broward County Public Schools has created programs committed to delivering high quality instruction,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “Our technical colleges are doing whatever it takes to assure our students receive the highest quality education, and that they are on the right path to succeed in college and career.”
Receiving this first place ranking is part of the postsecondary Florida Career and Professional Education (CAPE) Act funding list, under the FLDOE.~The Florida CAPE Act was created to provide a statewide planning partnership between business and education communities, to expand and retain high-value industry, and sustain a vibrant state economy.

Based on current industry standards, these exams and certifications are universally recognized throughout the United States marketplace. Contributing to the success and ranking of technical colleges, students are reimbursed for the cost of their exam(s) when successfully passed.

The District’s three technical colleges offer more than 60 career programs, with day and evening classes, and online options. Major subject areas include: architecture and construction; barbering; cosmetology and spa services; business management and administration; communication arts; culinary arts; education and training; fire academy; health science and medical technology; information technology; manufacturing; marketing and transportation; and logistics.
