Friday, May 02, 2014
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) J.P. Taravella High School Academy of Finance has earned Distinguished status based on the National Academy Foundation’s (NAF) annual assessment. Taravella High is one of only 22 academies in 38 states, Washington, D.C.,   and the U.S. Virgin Islands receiving the Distinguished merit. This designation is given to those that have exhibited exceptional fidelity to an educational model that prepares students for success in college and careers.
Additionally, six BCPS high school academies have reached NAF’s Model status for their outstanding curriculum and high-quality programs. High schools earning the Model status are Atlantic Technical Magnet High School of Information Technology, Cooper City High School Academy of Finance, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Academy of Finance, Piper High School Academy of Finance, South Broward High School Academy of Tourism & Hospitality and Western High School Academy of Finance.
“These academies are models for our network of over 500 academies nationwide. They provide students with a high quality education using NAF’s proven model, and exhibit exemplary practices that they share with other academies,” said Katherine Blasik, Assistant Vice President of Research and Evaluation for NAF.
The NAF is an acclaimed network of high school career academies focused on viable industries, including finance, hospitality and tourism, information technology, engineering, and health sciences. The NAF Model provides young people access to industry-specific curricula, work-based experiences and relationships with business professionals.
The Distinguished and Model academies will be recognized at the NAF’s annual professional development conference, in Washington, D.C., July 9 – 12, 2014.
