WHY:
Thanks to a grant awarded to BCPS by the REC Foundation and NASA (valued at $227,000), hundreds of BCPS students from 55 schools are competing for the first time in VEX robotics competitions this school year. The grant provides a robot, team registration funding and teacher professional development to participating schools. The grant is rolled out over four years, and will add additional schools each year until all BCPS elementary, middle and high schools are participating.

During the VEX Robotics Qualifying Tournaments, BCPS students participate in non-stop, action-packed challenges where they compete with their custom-built VEX robots. Students take part in team field challenges showcasing their skills operating and programming their robots. Top finishers qualify for state-level VEX competitions.
