Today, Monday, August 22, 2016, over 271,000 students headed to classes across Broward County Public Schools (BCPS). School Board members and Superintendent Robert W. Runcie dedicated their first day of the 2016/17 school year to visiting schools and greeting students, parents, teachers and staff. Traveling throughout the District, the Superintendent began his day at the South Area Transportation Bus Terminal in Pembroke Pines, where he boarded a bus to South Broward High School. He then greeted students and families at Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach K – 8 and Pines Lakes Elementary School. Superintendent Runcie continued to South Plantation High School and stopped for lunch with students at Plantation Middle School (pictured right). Visits throughout the day, also included J.P. Taravella High School, Margate Middle School and Seagull Alternative High School. The day culminated with a first day of school news conference at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center.

“From all corners of our community, the support for our students and schools has been tremendous,” said Superintendent Runcie. “It’s inspiring to see our families and community coming together, in support of our students’ education, and to see teaching and learning taking place in our classrooms on the first day, and every day.”
