School Board Approves Sale of District Property for Approximately $10 Million
Agreement Represents BCPS Commitment to Efficiency and
Maximizing Use of Resources

On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, the School Board of Broward County, Florida, unanimously approved a contract agreement with Jag Development Company, LLC, for the sale of a District owned parcel of land.  As part of the sale agreement, the District will receive between $9.4 million – $10.3 million for the vacant 12-acre site, which is located on the southeast corner of Broward Boulevard and Hiatus Road in the city of Plantation.  According to the agreement, the exact sale price is contingent upon final approvals received by Jag Development Company for its plans to build mid-rise residential units on the site.

The Board approved sale agreement is part of Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) ongoing efforts to identify District property that is no longer needed for educational purposes, and reinvest funds from the sale of those properties back into schools and classrooms across the District.  Previously this year, the District sold a .44 acre parcel of land in the city of Oakland Park for nearly $77,000.  In addition, three other District owned vacant parcels of land, with a combined asking price of approximately $5.5 million, are currently available for sale.

“The District continues to work hard every day to increase efficiencies, identify cost-savings and maximize the use of resources for the benefit of our students and schools,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie.  “I commend our staff for working diligently to identify surplus properties and market those properties to potential buyers, while always ensuring the District’s needs are at the forefront of the process.”
