Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) educators, parents, community leaders and students
BCPS Student Support Initiatives - Diversity, Cultural Outreach & Prevention Department, in partnership with the Children’s Services Council of Broward County and United Way of Broward County, is hosting a screening of the American Promise documentary, which highlights the challenges facing African-American youths. Following the screening, the film’s directors will lead community discussions.

The American Promise documentary follows the lives of two African-American boys as they grow into adulthood. The documentary spans 13 years of their lives as the students attend Dalton, one of the most prestigious private schools in the country. The documentary chronicles the boys' paths from kindergarten through high school graduation, and highlights America’s struggle to come of age on issues of race, class and opportunity.
The goal of the screening and community discussion is to enhance dialogue within the Broward County community about bridging the achievement gap for African-American males.
