The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Broward County’s official economic development partnership, is collaborating with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) on a new career fair, the Claim Your Future Showcase. Geared toward 11th grade students in the BCPS Career, Technical, Adult & Community Education (CTACE) program, this year’s career fair is modeled and named after the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County’s successful 2016 career fair.
On Wednesday, February 8, 2017, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., approximately 1,500 students will meet with representatives from 40-50 Alliance member companies at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.
Students will explore a variety of career possibilities and learn about the skills needed to pursue their professional goals. Students will attend panel discussions with C-level (high level) executives, participate in breakout sessions on the topics of resume writing, learn about business etiquette, and conduct mock interviews where they will receive one-on-one feedback from their executive interviewers. Participating companies will have a chance to meet and recruit summer interns.
“We recognize that building our talent pipeline starts when students begin to choose their career pathways and are thrilled to bring this event to BCPS students. We hope they are inspired to discover and pursue opportunities in our community’s many strong industry sectors,” said Bob Swindell, President & CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance.
“We are proud to partner with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance on several initiatives linking the local business community with our talented and creative students. With programs such as this, we are helping our students discover incredible career opportunities in South Florida,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie.
