Recent Incidents Involving Silver Trail Middle School and West Broward High School

Update Regarding Recent Incidents Involving Silver Trail Middle School and West Broward High School Community Meeting Scheduled for Monday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m.

Recently, Silver Trail Middle School and West Broward High School (Broward County Public Schools) were evacuated and/or searched after suspicious communications indicating a potential threat to the schools were received. These threats cause quite an interruption to the normal operation of schools, communities and to the lives of students and families.

Searches of the schools, with school employees and Pembroke Pines Police, have not revealed anything suspicious or of concern. All efforts have been conducted as precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all students, teachers and staff.

With each incident, Broward Schools Police and the Pembroke Pines Police Department have responded immediately to ensure the safety of students and school staff; and normal school operations have resumed as quickly as possible.

District and school staff continue to work with law enforcement agencies, as they work diligently to identify those who are responsible and hold them accountable as the investigation continues.

On Monday, September 8, 2014, Broward County Public Schools administrative staff, school staff and School Board members will host a community meeting to share information regarding the recent crisis situation affecting these schools. Representatives from the Pembroke Pines Police Department will also attend this community meeting. Parents, families and all members of the community are invited to attend this meeting.
