As Black History Month comes to a close, the “33311 Journeys Through Black History” introduces Whiddon Rogers Education Center students to prominent African-American community members who grew up in the 33311 ZIP code and have become renowned historical black figures to the community.  
 
The School Board will review and determine attendance areas and school usage recommendations for all elementary, middle, high and combination schools for the 2015/16 school year at two scheduled public hearing events.
 
The BCPS Head Start/Early Head Start Program serves three- and four-year-old children, and offers a full school day of educational enrichment activities with research proven curriculum focusing on the development of the whole child. In addition, Head Start and Early Head Start services include dental, health, nutrition, mental health and family support. 
 
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) announces the sponsorship of six additional Afterschool Meals Program sites, a subcomponent of the Child Care Food Program, designed to provide nutritious snacks and meals to children in afterschool programs, at no charge to students.

A celebration on the Plantation High School campus will mark the school’s 50th anniversary. Students, parents, alumni, staff and community partners have been working on the special observance, which provides fun for the entire family.
 
Congratulations to Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) educators who are recipients of grant awards from Florida Power & Light  (FPL) Company’s Teacher Grant Program. The awards fund classroom energy and engineering projects, such as solar-powered ovens, water-powered cars and wind generators, as part of a focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
 
Congratulations to J.P. Taravella High School Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) for being recognized by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) as the first high school in the nation to successfully organize and run a 110 story stair climb to benefit the NFFF. 
 
Lauderhill 6-12 STEM-MED School is hosting a Teen Dating Violence Awareness Rally to promote education and support for teens faced with abusive relationships, as well as others who may provide support for victims.
 
​Today, the School Board of Broward County, Florida, honored Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Peer Counseling Coordinators for earning a special distinction. 
 
Margate Middle School is hosting its 2nd Annual Northwest Broward Business Partner and Community Expo. The event provides families with information about community resources and services, as well as an opportunity to network with business in the northwest Broward area.
2015 Community Involvement Awards – “Catch the Spirit,” celebrates BCPS outstanding volunteers, mentors, business partners, parent involvement award nominees and winners.

Culinary arts students at Plantation High School have whipped together their own three part competition, modeled after the network TV series “Chopped,” under the direction of their instructor Chef Dee Lennox. 
 
Congratulations to four Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) seniors who are candidates for the prestigious 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

One elementary school teacher, two middle school teachers, two high school teachers, and one pre-k – adult community school teacher round out the six finalists vying to become Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) 2016 Teacher of the Year.


Broward County Public Schools is reminding parents/guardians that the deadline to submit a School Choice application for their child is quickly approaching.  The deadline to apply for a magnet program, Nova school, or school reassignment for the 2015/16 school year is Wednesday, February 11, 2015.
 
J.P. Taravella High School students, parents, school leadership, teachers, school staff, District staff, community members, local law enforcement and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) hold a dedicate a memorial garden in honor of Justin Flowers.

 

 
Congratulations to Linda Gancitano, physical education teacher at Driftwood Middle School Academy of Health and Wellness, on being named a White House Climate Education on Literacy Champion of Change.

Celebrate Literacy Week is observed January 26–30, 2015, to highlight the important connection between reading and health.

Nearly 1,000 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) McFatter Technical College adult students and 600 McFatter Technical High School students are joining students across the nation during the month of February to celebrate National Career and Technical Education (CTE) MonthTM.
