The Student Services Department of Broward County Public Schools will host a Typical or Troubled?workshop at Cypress Bay High School, Media Center (18600 Vista Park Blvd., Weston) on Tuesday, November 5,  2013, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Congratulations to the 12 finalists announced for the 2013 Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year. Broward Cultural Division and Business for the Arts of Broward selected the esteemed finalists for the excellence in arts education awards.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) held a joint news conference with the Broward Teachers Union (BTU) to announce a tentative agreement.

Jennifer Luechauer, a senior at South Broward High School in Hollywood, has been selected as a member of the 2013 NAfME All-National Honor Band sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

Congratulations to Jeremy Guttveg, a member of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Band program, for being selected for the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will host its annual Construction Career Days (CCD) Fair on October 22 – 23, 2013, at Bergeron Rodeo Grounds (4271 Davie Road, Davie). The two-day event will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds arena on opening day, Tuesday, October 22 at 7:45 – 8 a.m

Nearly 500 People Attend Ed Talk 2013

Nearly 500 people, including parents, students, community members, School Board members, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Superintendent and BCPS employees participated in Ed Talk 2013.

Pompano Beach High School, an International Affairs and Information Technology magnet school, is hosting three education administrators from Brazil for two weeks as part of the 2013 Educational Seminar International Exchange Program.

 Broward County Public Schools has announced a change in date for the Wednesday, October 16, 2013, Conversation with the District at Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale. 
College-bound students and their families will be able to meet representatives from over 200 colleges and universities from around the country at the Greater Fort Lauderdale National College Fair, which takes place at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.

One hundred-fourteen Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) pre-school through adult education students with disabilities will be honored for their accomplishments at an awards event in their honor on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

Benjamin Leong, Chief Financial Officer of Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), is the winner of this year’s Bill Wise Award from the Council of Great City Schools for distinguished service to urban education.

Six BCPS teachers will receive a surprise visit from OfficeMax representatives, who will award them with $1,000 worth of classroom supplies as part of the annual OfficeMax A Day Made Better advocacy program to help erase teacher-funded classrooms. Local winners will are among 1,000 teachers nationally who were nominated by their principals for demonstrating passion, dedication and innovation in the classroom.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to be the winner of three Adult & Community Education (ACE) of Florida Achievement Awards.  The awards are for ACE School Administrator of the Year, ACE Teacher of the Year and ACE Business Supporter of the Year.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Superintendent Robert W. Runcie is being recognized by Florida Virtual School as Superintendent of the Year.

In response to inquiries regarding how the federal government’s shutdown may impact our school system, we want the Broward community to know that our schools and programs, including the Head Start program, are open.

The School Board of Broward County, Florida has adopted a resolution in support of National Read for the Record Day.  This annual event, which is sponsored by Jumpstart and the Pearson Foundation, takes place on Thursday, October 3, 2013, and is aimed at celebrating literacy and promoting the importance of early childhood education.

West Broward High School Math teacher Horace Buddoo is receiving a special honor.  He is being named a Master Teacher as part of the Better Lessons Master Teacher project.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is being awarded an $11.9 million federal grant to create and expand six elementary magnet schools that will specialize in STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Representatives from the Miami Dolphins, the Dolphins Cheerleaders and the team’s mascot will join students at Lloyd Estates Elementary on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, to help support childhood literacy and promote the importance of being physically active. 

The School Board of Broward County, Florida has approved Superintendent Robert W. Runcie’s contract extension through October 4, 2019.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Food and Nutrition Services Department is earning a national honor for its efforts to get students excited about eating healthy.  It is receiving the 2013 United States Department of Agriculture Best Practice Award in the category of “Increasing Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables.” 

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) congratulates 35 students for being named Semifinalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.  These high school seniors are among 16,000 students nationwide selected for this honor from more than 50,000 qualifying applicants.
