Patti was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in South Florida. She attended public schools and was the first member of her family to attend college. Patti earned a Bachelor of Public Administration degree from Barry University and she is also a graduate of the U of M Good Government Initiative Cultivating Leaders of Excellence Program. Patti is married to Tom and she is the mother of two incredible children, Thomas and Alexis.

Patti was employed as an Administrator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 23 years and her diverse professional experience includes inter-governmental coordination, sustainability initiatives, facilities planning and growth management oversight.  As a Broward County resident for many years, Patti was active in a number of community boards and she served on the Early Learning Coalition and the Charter Review Committee. She has also volunteered for various local non-profit and civic organizations.

Patti proudly took her life experience to public service initially being elected to the School Board of Broward County in 2010 to serve as the District 2 School Board Member. She is currently the School Board representative on various boards including the Broward Oversight Committee, Broward County Planning Council and the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization.  Patti is the past honoree of the LCCBC A.B.R.A.S.S.O. Award, Hispanic Women of Distinction, Broward County Chapter-UNA-USA Outstanding Educational Service Award, Kiwanis Award and the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Chamber Pinnacle Community Leadership Award.

As an individual who immigrated to this country as a child, Patti understands the struggles children can encounter in facing adversity. She attributes part of her success in life to her family and the public education system. Patti strongly believes that public education is the true equalizer in society and as such she strives to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn and be successful in life.
