Updated: 10/7/16, 3:30 p.m.
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will resume normal operations of all schools and administrative offices on Monday, October 10, 2016. In addition:
- All weekend District events and activities for Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, remain canceled. This includes field trips, clubs, athletic events, competitions, etc.
- Initial assessments of school campuses show no visible property damage due to Hurricane Matthew.
- Regarding hurricane makeup days, the District will contact the Florida Department of Education to determine what, if any, makeup days are necessary.
“We are all very grateful that Broward County Public Schools, our families and communities received minimum impact from Hurricane Matthew,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “I want to thank our amazing staff for their dedication, support and all of their hard work before, during and after the hurricane. Their efforts demonstrate their ongoing commitment for our students, schools and community.”
If any additional updates are necessary, the District will provide information via a variety of communications channels, including the District’s website (browardschools.com), robo calls, mobile app notifications, social media (on Twitter @browardschools and on Facebook facebook.com/browardschools) and through BECON-TV and local media. The District will also update its Information Hotline at 754-321-0321, with the latest information.
The District’s Emergency Management Unit monitors the progress of any major weather system that may affect Broward County Public Schools, and works directly with the Broward County Emergency Management Center during the hurricane season. Please continue to check this website and the local media for any storm updates.
