Broward Virtual School Ambassadors of Hope Club, parents, and students honored Dr. King’s legacy through community service. 

The Office of Equity & Academic Attainment launched its first in a series of Career Summits. 

Broward Virtual School (BVS) Ambassadors of Hope Club, lead by students Hannah Galvis, Sylvana Galvis, and Julianna Morgan collected more than 100 toys this holiday season for the Children’s Home Society of Florida. 

Tracy Wilson Mourning, founder of Honey Shine, Inc. mentoring program, recently visited Hallandale Adult Community Center to speak with students participating in one of the school’s four mentoring programs.

Congratulations to Deerfield Park Elementary School Performing Arts students on their first place “Superior” performances at the Orlando Music Festival, December 5, 2104.

Manatee Bay Elementary ‘Buddies Up’

Manatee Bay Elementary is very proud of its new Bay Buddies program, which brings together ESE (Exceptional Student Education) students and GE (General Education) students to participate in teacher-directed activities which promote social and work skills.

Broward Virtual School Ambassadors of Hope Club, parents, faculty, and staff teamed up with Holy Cross Hospital for families in need during this Thanksgiving holiday.

Student chosen to participate in the 2015 High School Honors Orchestra this February at Carnegie Hall. She is representing the finest of high school performers internationally. 

Broward Virtual School students had the rare opportunity to become radio broadcast engineers for a day, on November 18, 2014 at WLYF Miami, 101.5 Lite FM. 

On October 17, 2014, Atlantic, McFatter, Sheridan Technical Colleges and the Office of Equity & Academic Attainment recently hosted their first annual Adult Career Pathways Student Summit. 

The National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) has currently ranked Nova High School's Debate Team in first place, out of the top 10 teams in the nation.

Congratulations to Thomas McDonald of West Broward High School on qualifying for the 2014 Junior Pan American Infantile Championships. Thomas is currently ranked first place for the nation in the 14-year-old male, 58kg division.

Students at Cypress Run Education Center were provided a voucher towards the purchase of a book at the school’s Scholastic Book Fair, Sir Readalot’s Castle: Enter The Kingdom of Books, which took place October 13 – 17, 2014.

Walter C. Young Middle School’s Knights of Scrabble team placed 6th in the nation at the 2014 National School SCRABBLE Championship.

Castle Hill Elementary students, McKhaila McKenzie, Erykah Shaw and Shyan Braswell brought home a national second-place ranking at the 11th Annual Kasparov Chess Foundation All-Girls National Championship in Chicago. The trio defeated fierce competitors from public and private schools across the country.

The Non-Instructional Leadership Development Program is a joint venture between the Office of Talent Development and Sheridan Technical Center that began in 2008.

Lauderhill 6-12 STEM-MED (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – Medical and Engineering Design) Magnet School held a ribbon ceremony on October 24, 2013, to mark the opening of Broward County Public Schools first 6-12 grade magnet school.

Third grade students from Pompano Beach Elementary School got the chance to meet with Local 10 meteorologist, Betty Davis, recently as a part of their first quarter study on weather.

The J.P. Taravella High School DECA chapter and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) hosted an outdoor assembly to bring awareness of the consequences of distracted driving as a part of their Distracted Drivers Destroy Dreams project.

Park Lakes Elementary School hosted its first Dad and Daughter Luncheon on Friday, October 18, 2013. Daughters anxiously awaited the lunchtime arrival of their “Man of the Hour.” 

Over 100 BCPS pre-school through adult education students with disabilities were honored for their accomplishments at the annual “Just Do It...I Did!” awards ceremony on October 10, 2013.
