Schools have been sent the following checklist as a way to bring renewed
attention to their safety procedures.
• SRO / school staff should be constantly aware of any suspicious packages
or items left unattended. Inspections for any unattended suspicious items will
be conducted every morning. Efforts will be coordinated with all school personnel
and they will be instructed to bring all matters of suspicion to the principals
/ SROs attention immediately.
• Enhanced visible patrols throughout the campus. This should be done at
random times as to not create a "pattern."
• Marked Unit, if available, should be parked in a highly visible location
and moved randomly to different locations around campus.
• Unauthorized parking of an unattended vehicle should be restricted.
• Check natural gas tanks located in the back or sides of schools at least
three times per day.
• Check water valves and main water sources at least three times per day.
• Check air handlers and be familiar with on/off procedures as it relates
to emergencies.
• Check main electrical boxes and janitorial locations not in public view.
• Advise Safety Patrols and Youth Crime Watch to quickly report any suspicious
persons or activity immediately.
• Review your Critical Incident Response Plan for your school and keep
contact numbers handy.
• Lend assistance with traffic control problems to quickly get buses in
/ out of campus.
• School staff should ensure that students are not roaming campus without
authorization. School administration should limit passes to mandatory need only.
• Supply District's Security Hotline phone number
754-321-0911 to
all school staff and encourage them to call in any suspicious act.
