District Safety Preparations
Current Alert Level
The Broward County School District places the highest priority on the safety and security of its students and staff. During the past few years, the Broward County School Board has adopted policies and implemented a wide variety of procedures to ensure a safe and secure school environment.

And that commitment continues today.

The District has excellent working relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and is in constant contact with them in order to monitor the current threat level. At this time, there is NO CREDIBLE THREAT to our schools, Broward County or the South Florida Area.

The District has many ways of disseminating information in the event of an emergency. Some of the ways you can stay informed include:

The Media. This will be the main vehicle through which information will be provided to the public. The District works very closely with all local print and broadcast (TV & radio) media to provide up-to-the-minute information during emergency situations.

• The community can receive updated information about our public schools via the District's Rumor Control Hotline,754-321-0321. This is a recorded message updating the current situation.

• Our Web site (www.browardschools.com). Whenever possible, up-to-the-minute information will be posted on our Site.

All of our schools have individual safety plans that detail what action(s) are to be taken in the event of an emergency/crisis situation. These plans include procedures to respond to critical incidents, such as fire, gas leaks and bad weather (i.e. tornado, hurricane, etc.) Our schools practice these drills regularly. In addition, the plans have been shared with law enforcement agencies to assist them in the event an emergency response is needed at a particular location.

If ever a credible threat arises, the District will work very closely with all law enforcement officials to determine the best course of action. Whatever actions a school takes during emergency/crisis situations depend on the nature of the threat/incident. It's important to note that all actions taken will be done to protect students and staff.
