Game of the Week:
McArthur Mustangs 28, Coral Springs Colts 7
|
The high school football season officially kicked off on Saturday
night at Lockhart Stadium with the Broward County Athletic Association
Kick-Off Classic. The contest featured two of last year's county
playoff teams – the McArthur High Mustangs and the Coral Springs
Colts. Wearing ceremonial game jerseys with their names inscribed
on the back, both teams appeared ready for a hard fought game.
Coral Springs High came out early in the first quarter with all the momentum,
moving the ball down the field using the running game. But it didn't
take long before David Robinson (#2), senior running back for the Mustangs
took the over the game.
Behind an impressive offensive line, Robinson gained 106 yards and scored
on runs of 47 and 4 yards. David displayed the speed and hard running
that made him one of the premier backs in Dade County last year. Along
with fellow running back Manuel Cruz (#4), who ran for a touchdown, the
Mustangs controlled the ground, the clock and the game.
The Mustang defense was opportunistic as Leroy Aiken and Matt Deal each
recovered a fumble and Thomas Roberson intercepted a pass.
