BCAA Game of the
Week 6:
Deerfield Beach 54 – Douglas 33
|
It was like an old western shootout. Brent Schaeffer, quartback for
the Deerfield Bucks, showed up at the stadium armed with his two
six-shooters. By the end of the game, the Eagle defense understood
why Schaeffer is recognized as one of the best QB's in the BCAA.
Schaeffer's aim was deadly, firing 15 for 21 for 249 yards and a
record six touchdown passes.
The Bucks exploded in the first quarter by scoring 28 unanswered points.
The Eagle offense didn't help the situation by turning the ball over
twice in the first period, including a 38-yard Bucks interception return.
At halftime the Bucks had the game well in hand with a 41-13 lead.
In the second half, the Stoneman Douglas Eagles demonstrated why high
school sports is the best game in town. The Eagles did not quit, unleashing
a punishing ground attack that accumulated more than 250 yards. The Eagles
cut the score to 41-33 in the fourth quarter, but Schaeffer kept his
cool and hit his wide-out Andrews on a quick out. Andrews broke a tackle
and ran 33 yards down the sideline for the score. The Bucks sealed the
game late in the fourth quarter on Schaffer's sixth and final touchdown
pass of 5 yards.
