BCAA Girls Volleyball
All-Star Game

On November 15, 2003, Northeast High School hosted the 5th Annual
BCAA Girls Volleyball All-Star game. The North squad won the event
3-2 in a best of five game contest.
South Head Coach, Jenna Andrews remarked: " The All-Star game is
an excellent event to showcase the BCAA's best players, the talent was
awesome." The All-Star game featured the best senior volleyball
players in Broward County. The stars included: Debra Edwards, Hollywood
Hills outside hitter who finished the season with 185 kills, 142 digs
and 129 points; Betsy Connors, Coral Springs, Outside Hitter, 287 kills,
76 blocks, 92 digs and 132 points; Lindey Meleski, St. Thomas, setter,
625 assists, 134 service points and 99 digs; and Nicole Leher, Stoneman
Douglas, 396 assists, 210 points (66 aces, 129 digs and 67 kills.)
The All-Star squads were led by two respected and veteran coaches, Jenna
Andrews, South squad (Hollywood Hills High) and Rainee Porsch, North
squad (Northeast High).
The MVP,s of the all-star classic were Betsy Connors (#12) from Coral
Springs High and Ashley Green (#13) from St. Thomas Aquinas High. Betsy
finished the event with 15 kills, 8 assists and 9 digs for the North
squad. Ashley led the South squad with 13 kills, 10 digs and 3 assists.
Other players considered for MVP honors were, Nichole Leher, (#3), Stoneman
DouglasHigh; Shelly Jencik (#10), Cardinal Gibbons High; Valarie Keyser
(#15) Western High; and Debbie Edwards (#3), Hollywood Hills High.
