This match up featured two first-year head coaches: Kirk Bosse, Stoneman Douglas Eagles and Alan Held, South Broward Bulldogs. Both coaches spent many years on the sidelines as assistants. Bosse served under the Eagles legendary coach Jim Mathieson. Held worked as assistant to Bob Woods at Hallandale High before coming to South Broward.

The Stoneman Douglas Eagles running attack was virtually unstoppable. Behind a punishing offensive line, the Eagles ran for nearly 400 yards. Leading the way for the Eagles was running back Bill Clancy. Clancy led the Eagles with 100 yards on 15 carries. Sharing the Eagle running load was Jon Barrett, 14 carries for 69 yards and Bill Haughton, 5 carries for 59 yards. Eagle back Joseph Stitt carried the ball only 4 times, but two of his runs were over 30 yards. Eagle quarterback Steve Porto made sure the ball was distributed to every Eagle running back.

The Bulldogs were held to 58 running yards. Bulldog quarterback Richard Joseph was forced to throw 31 times. Joseph’s receivers did not help the cause by dropping countless passes. The Bulldogs finally got on the board late in the fourth quarter on a 59-yard touchdown pass from Joseph to wide receiver Dwayne Ray.

Our game of the week video features a look at game day with the Stoneman Douglas Eagle Marching band.
