BROWARD STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN 19TH ANNUAL HARVEST DRIVE

For the 19th consecutive year, needy families in Broward County will benefit from the annual Harvest Drive. This year's goal is to assist 2,000 families by providing food for a complete Thanksgiving dinner plus a week's worth of groceries, new or gently used clothing, shoes, books and toys.

"Children Helping Children" remains the theme of the event. This year, over 180 Broward schools are participating. Students and staff are conducting a variety of food collection and fund raising events and will help to organize donations and distribution. Companies, civic groups and religious organizations are also involved, making cash donations and providing gift cards for food and/or gasoline.

The Harvest Drive incorporates all aspects of philanthropy, by promoting the concept of children and adults working hand-in-hand to offer needy families in Broward County gifts of food and other necessities during the Thanksgiving holiday and beyond. The event assists in educating students and creating a consciousness about the needs in the community, promoting altruism and giving them an opportunity to help others. The Harvest Drive has been endorsed by the School Board.

A kick-off event is planned for Sunday, November 6, from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Weston Town Center, 1675 Market Street, Weston. The event will feature face painting, a bounce house, and a DJ. Community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food and toiletries to the event.
