GRAND OPENING SCHEDULED FOR SENSORY GARDEN AT NORCREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Grand Opening of Sensory Garden
WHEN:

WHERE:
Norcrest Elementary School, 3951 NE 16th Avenue, Pompano Beach
WHY:
The intent of the sensory garden is to provide special needs students from the school's autism cluster with an opportunity to experience sensory stimulation involving all of the senses.
HOW:
Students will use their sense of sight with colors, various plants and color spinners; touch with textured ground cover and glider benches; smell with different plants, flowers and vegetables; sound with wind chimes and fountains and taste when they eat the vegetables.
ADDITIONAL:
The garden was created through grants from Lowe's and CVS pharmacy, and the efforts of teacher Rebecca Lysengen, PTA parent Julie Doerfler, and community members. Jack Kruteck of Kruteck and Associates, a local landscaping business, donated his time and expertise in designing the garden. All Norcrest students will enjoy the garden throughout the school year. There is ample room with shade for classes. Refreshments will be served at the grand opening.
