COMMUNITY FORUM TO IDENTIFY CHALLENGES AND WORK ON COMMON GOALS FOR BROWARD'S YOUTH

Educators, church and business leaders, elected officials and community members will attend the "Credentialed by 26 Community Forum," to be held Thursday, November 3, 9:30 a.m. – noon at the Performing Cultural Arts Theatre, Broward College South Campus, 7200 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines. The purpose of the forum is to identify the challenges facing Broward's youth and determine how the community can work together to ensure that students graduate from high school and receive the support needed through age 26 for success in the workplace and in life. Existing youth services will be discussed and gaps identified.

The goals of this collaboration are to create strong private and public advocacy teams, produce a more skilled and better-prepared workforce, establish fund streams for schools and programs that improve youth outcomes, increase labor market opportunities and expand corporate and community engagement.

Four "champions" have been selected to lead portions of the discussion. They include School Board member Laurie Rich Levinson; President Emeritus of Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Abe Fischler; CEO of Children Services Council, Cindy Arenberg-Seltzer and business leader Roy Rogers. Elementary, secondary and college level students will take part in the discussions.

Broward Superintendent of Schools Robert W. Runcie will welcome forum participants. Speakers at the event will include Forum for Youth Investment State and Local Policy Director, Elizabeth Gaines and Nova University Professor Anne Rambo.

The Forum for Youth Investment selected Broward as one of only four communities in the nation to receive a grant to collaborate with its community partners in the Ready by 21, Credentialed by 26 Challenge. Other communities issued grants include: Sonoma, California; Montgomery, Maryland and El Dorado, California.

In addition to BCPS and the Forum for Youth Investment, sponsors of the forum include: Broward College, Nova Southeastern University and Children's Services Council.

The public is encouraged to attend the forum. To RSVP, contact Monica Allen at 754-321-2490 or by email (monica.allen@browardschools.com).
