Broward Schools Press Release

DISTRICT'S SCIENCE FAIR OPEN TO ALL SCHOOLS IN BROWARD COUNTY

The Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) annual science fair and science, technology, engineering and math expo can open doors; just ask Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Pratheek Magaraj.

Last year, Magaraj wowed the judges at both the local and state levels and received 3rd place at the International Science and Engineering Fair, sponsored by Intel and held in San Diego, California. At the international competition, his project ("Methods of Optimizing the Monte Carlo Statistical Algorithm to Increase Computational Efficiency in Multidimensional Integration") received special recognition from the European Organization for Nuclear Research-CERN. He was one of 12 finalists selected to travel to Geneva, Switzerland this past July to meet with CERN researchers.

Other students from all over Broward County will have their opportunities to shine when BCPS hosts its annual fair February 10 – 12, 2012. The event, one of the largest science fairs and science, technology, engineering and math expos in the State of Florida, will be held at Coral Ridge Mall in Oakland Park. Judging will take place February 10, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The public may view displays on Saturday, February 11 and Sunday, February 12, during mall hours. The fair is open to all Broward public, charter and private schools. There is a $125 fee for private schools wishing to have their students take part.
