LOOK! Up in the Sky!
It's a bird! It's a plane!
No . . . it's a Superintendent!
That's right Dr. Frank Till, Broward's Superintendent of Schools,
had the opportunity to make a parachute jump with the world's best
parachute team the U.S. Army's elite Golden Knights.
Was he scared? Was he nervous? Was he crazy?
"I wasn't nervous at all, just excited," said Dr. Till shortly after
landing from a parachute jump from nearly 14,000 feet.
So why would Broward's Superintendent of Schools willingly jump out
of a perfectly good airplane?
Simple to own up to a "bet."
You see, the Superintendent challenged District employees to raise
more money than last year for the United Way of Broward County. And
our employees came through with flying colors, raising $80,000 more
this year than last year. This year we raised a whopping $442,000 for
the United Way of Broward County.
With the U.S. Army's Golden Knights in town for the annual Air & Sea
Show, arrangements were made for Dr. Till to accompany the team on
a jump to pay up on his "bet." Besides, what better way for
Dr. Till to attend the District's annual JROTC Pass in Review event
than by "dropping in" with the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute
Team?
More than 1,000 Broward County High School JROTC students invaded Markham
Park in Sunrise to participate in the "Superintendents Pass
in Review" a military parade celebrating JROTC's success.
Students from 20 high schools represented four branches of service including
the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy, during the traditional military
inspection.
In addition, military personnel who were in town for the annual Fleet
Week and Air & Sea Show festivities, including members of the U.S.
Southern Command, attended the event and were impressed with our JROTC
Cadets.
